Sunday Watch: Santa Clarita Diet

santa-clarita-diet-netflix-4k-hdrEvery 30-something who grew up in the 90’s, gets excited when Drew Barrymore is on the screen – at least I know I do. So when you put her in a very unusual comedy which she starts eating people after an unusual series of events, it makes you wonder where will this go? Let’s say Netflix has released a new TV show that takes crazy diets and family drama to a whole new level.

Santa Clarita Diet takes weird and unconventional to a whole new level. In a nutshell, Sheila and Joel Hammond (Timothy Olyphant) are married and work together as realtors. One day, while at an open house, Sheila starts feeling ill and somethings happens to her changes her completely. She starts feeling more active, courageous, basically more self-empowered; no heartbeat, though. Oh! Did I forget to mention she starts to eat people. The story goes around how Sheila and Joel cope with her new diet and how their teenage daughter Abby (Liv Hewson) copes with this whole new lifestyle.

Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant make such a great couple. Joel’s awkwardness is perfectly portrayed by Timothy. Also, Drew is so funny while making eating people a mundane event. The first couple of episodes my husband and I watched because we were curious about the show, but the more we watched the more wanted to see what happens next. We are still half-way through the show, but we can’t wait to see the rest of the story. As I’ve mentioned last time, I’m not a big zombie fan. That said, I love when people do stereotypical shows in an unconventional way. So a family drama with a flesh-eating twist is definitely my cup of tea.

  • Where to watch: Netflix
  • How long are the episodes: 30′
  • IMDB rating: 8/10
  • My rating: 8.5/10
