Prince Island, Calgary – CA

Just north of downtown Calgary, you’ll find a small island on the Bow river called Prince Island. I honestly don’t know much about it, but you can easily tell that the Calgarians cherish this small piece of land. People having their lunch breaks, school kids taking a tour with their teacher, young and older couples enjoying each other’s company, people catching up with friends, families with their children… you name it. And in the middle of it all, me and my camera.

I loved it there. Such a peaceful place. I got to see black squirrels for the first time there. This might not sound as interesting to you, but they were pretty impressive for me. And just like their human counterparts, the Canadian ducks were really friendly. It was just a real good place to unwind and forget I was a tourist for a moment.

The view of the city from Prince Island is was what I liked the most about it. The balance between these two opposites amazed me. The hustle and bustle of the city and the quiet of nature felt like no place else.

And to make this place a bit more spacial, just next to the island you find Calgary’s Peace Bridge. A pedestrian bridge that connects pedestrians and cyclists to both sides to the Bow river.
