Picnic in the Park

02_McKinley ParkMy husband and I have been living in Sacramento for about three months now. We still don’t know the city very well, but one of the things we like about it is the fact that there are plenty of parks to have a nice day off. Last Wednesday was a beautiful sunny day, which we thought would be a perfect day for having a picnic. Again, we don’t know many places here, so we went to one of the most famous parks in the city: McKinley Park in East Sacramento.

SONY DSCMcKinley Park is a family friendly park. There’s a pretty big playground for the kids to play, every time we’ve been there it’s always full of kids. As a teacher, I can appreciate the many possibilities for kids to become more sociable, as well as learn how to share and other life lessons kids need to apply to their lives. You can also find basketball and tennis courts, a softball field and, if you like jogging, there’s an excellent jogging path there. If you’re a dog person, it’s a great place to take your dog for a walk.SONY DSC

Since Fabio and I don’t have kids, nor are we the athletic type, we enjoyed ourselves by having a picnic (chips and PB & J sandwiches) while relaxing near the pond, where you can find many ducks and swans. We also walked around the neighbourhood and kept picturing ourselves living in one of those historic houses. One can only dream, right? I took some pictures there as well. You can see the full album on Flickr.
SONY DSCWe used to do this a lot when we lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I’d take my camera with me and Fabio would smoke his pipe. For me, it was a bit nostalgic from the time when we started dating. All in all, it was such a lovely time that we can’t wait for another beautiful day here in Sac so we can explore other parks.

I have to say that I am really enjoying this experience of blogging. I plan on sharing more about this on Friday. So, thanks for spending your time here with me.  I’d love to hear what is your favourite place to spend a day off? Write it down in the comment section bellow. See you guys next time!
